Community Midwifery Team

It’s best to see them as early as possible to obtain the information you need to have a healthy pregnancy.

Antenatal Care

Antenatal care is shared between the Community Midwives (who are based here at the Health Centre) and GPs who work closely together to provide care and support to women and their families. Our Community Midwives hold Antenatal Clinics in the Health Centre. Ultrasound scans and Consultant appointments (if under Consultant care) are undertaken at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

First Antenatal Appointment

It is important to contact the Health Centre as soon as you are pregnant to arrange a ‘booking appointment’ with one of our Midwives – ideally before 10 weeks of pregnancy to obtain information and plan a pathway of care for you to have a happy and healthy pregnancy. You can do this by calling us on 0345 337 1120.

Antenatal Classes

You will be given the opportunity to attend Antenatal Classes, usually in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy – these are held in the Health Centre.

Intrapartum Care (care of women and their babies from the onset of labour and immediately after birth)

Intrapartum Care is offered at Dr Grays Hospital in Elgin and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

Post Natal Care

The Community Midwifery Team will also visit you at home after your baby is born. Your post natal check at 6-weeks is carried out by the GP.

Healthy Start

Healthy Start is a government scheme that aims to improve the health of pregnant women and mothers on benefits or low incomes, all pregnant women under 18 years of age and children who are under 5 years of age. Families who are supported by the scheme receive vouchers to spend on milk (including infant formula), fresh fruit and vegetables.
