Coils or Implants

Who do I see?

GP / Sexual Health Clinic

Advice:

If you are due for a change of your coil, Mirena or contraceptive implant, please submit an online medical consultation request for the GP Clinical Team giving us as much information as you can including dates of device expiry. We will respond usually with an offer of an appointment with a GP or other suitable clinician to consider this further with you.

After consultation and agreement with your GP, the reception team will be in touch with you to arrange an appointment for the replacement device to be fitted.

Please allow good time for this process to take place as there is currently a 2-3 month waiting list for these procedures. If you are using your device for contraception it is important to keep yourself protected while you are awaiting your procedure. Your GP will be able to give you advice about any ‘bridging’ contraception if this is required in the case that your currently fitted device expires before your new one is fitted.

Your GP will issue you a prescription for your device – you will need to arrange for this to be dispensed by your community pharmacy and take this to your appointment.

Procedures such as these can also be performed at the sexual health clinic. Please visit https://www.grampiansexualhealthservices.com/ for further information.

If you cannot use the online service please call us on 0345 337 1120 and a member of the care navigation team will help you.
