Impetigo

Who do I see?

Community Pharmacy / Forres Treatment and Care Hub / GP

Advice:

Impetigo is a contagious bacterial infection of the top layer of the skin. It is often seen in children around the mouth and chin area and is usually characterised by red sores of the skin that then develop a thick golden crust.

Advice and treatment for those over 2 years of age are available from your local community pharmacy.

For cases in children under 2 years old please submit an online medical consultation request for the Urgent Medical Problem Team giving us as much information about your problem as you can. Please take and attach a photograph when requested. You will get a same-day response usually by telephone or a time to attend the surgery for further assessment and examination.

Further information is available from the NHS Inform website.

If you cannot use the online service please call us on 0345 337 1120 and a member of the care navigation team will help you.
