Neck Pain

Who do I see?

Community Pharmacy / First Contact Physiotherapist / GP

Advice:

Initially, seek advice from your community pharmacy. They can give you further advice and pain relief. Most cases of simple neck pain or wry neck settle quickly with pain relief and performing some neck stretching exercises such as these on the Versus Arthritis website.

If you are getting ongoing neck pain and want to seek further advice, please submit an online medical consultation request for the GP Clinical Team giving us as much information about your problem as you can. We will respond usually with an offer of an appointment with the First Contact Physiotherapist. They are probably the best healthcare practitioners to be able to assess, diagnose and treat this problem.

If you are in severe pain even after taking pain relief or you have more unusual symptoms (see the NHS inform article below) and feel you need urgent advice from us, please submit an online medical consultation request for the Urgent Medical Problem Team giving us as much information about your problem as you can. You will get a same-day response usually by telephone or a time to attend the surgery for further assessment and examination.

Further information about neck problems is available from NHS inform.

If you cannot use the online service please call us on 0345 337 1120 and a member of the care navigation team will help you.
